Teneshia Hudspeth is County Clerk of the third-largest county in the nation and the largest county in the State of Texas. Harris County has a population of more than 4.7 million. She is also the first African-American woman to serve in this role. Clerk Hudspeth is a native of Austin, Texas, but has called Houston home for more than 20 years. She and her husband Samson Babalola are the happy parents of Josiah.

Clerk Hudspeth has been with the County Clerks office for more than 15 years and has served under four County Clerks. She began her career as the Public Affairs Administrative Assistant, was promoted to Voter Outreach Coordinator and Public Information Officer, eventually becoming the Administrator of Communications and Voter Outreach. In January 2020, she was appointed Chief Deputy, responsible for office operations and in less than a year was elected Harris County Clerk.

As County Clerk, her primary goal is to provide the public with quality customer service. She is committed to improving government services through new technology to make them readily available and accessible.

An Assumed Name or “DBA” is the registering or securing of a company or business name, owner name, and address in which the company or business entity will be located and conducting business. Any individual doing business in Harris County is required to file an Assumed Name reflecting his/her business name and the ownership of the business pursuant toBusiness and Commerce Code 71.001. The Harris County Clerk’s Office files unincorporated, incorporated and withdrawals of Assumed Names.

Research the name of your business by visiting ourAssumed Name databaseto determine the availability of the name of the business. Please note that the Assumed Name record is valid for up to ten years. To avoid a lapse, the owner should register the name again, before the term period ends.

The Harris County District Clerks Office will offer a new service starting Aug. 1: accepting applications for passports.

Commissioners Court green-lighted the passport project on Tuesday.

The timing is great since the U.S. State Departments downtown passport office in the Mickey Leland Federal Building will be closed from Labor Day to at least Thanksgiving. Customers will find the District Clerks Office is well-positioned to meet the passport needs of downtown employees and firms.

Employers are going to be looking for an alternative, someplace where they can send workers to get quick, efficient service, said District Clerk Chris Daniel. My team is prepped and ready to go. We can meet the demands created by the renovations at the federal building.

Walk-in customers may apply in Room 170, the court registry section, on the first floor of the Civil Courthouse at 201 Caroline. Clerks will be on hand weekdays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

District Clerk offices accept passport applications in about 150 counties statewide. Daniel said he decided to open one in the Harris County District Clerks Office as a convenience – people will have one more place to go to get a passport.

Houston, April 3, 2020 Given the current situation caused by the coronavirus , which has forced the Harris County District Clerks Office to suspend in-person services, District Clerk Marilyn Burgess wants to highlight that our e-Issuance service is the way to go to get your service papers timely.

Through e-Issuance, attorneys can request that service papers get delivered directly back to the requesters email account with attached documents. This email can then be forwarded directly to the process server of the attorneys choice.

E-Issuance service documents are often processed the next day, with a maximum turnaround time of 3-5 business days. With this service, documents can also be accessed by logging in to the DCO website, where retrieval is available 24/7.

E-Issuance is easy to request, but you need to have the new form. Just submit the completed Civil Process Request form as a Word document when filing electronically.

In one of its more monumental tasks, the District Clerk’s Office is responsible for custodial care and safekeeping of all court records for 59 District Courts and 15 County Criminal Courts located in Harris County. In conjunction with its court duties, the office also accounts for all monies paid as deposits on civil cases awaiting disposition and all funds awarded minors in court action that are paid into the court registry.In addition, the Harris County District Clerk has the important responsibility of providing customer service to all child support cases heard in Harris County.

The County Clerk is no longer the Chief Election Official of Harris County due to the creation of the Elections Administrators Office, but continues to be involved in the election process as a member of the Harris County Elections Commission that oversees voter accessibility, accuracy, and security.
